Privacy Policy

WHO WE ARE & SCOPE OF THIS POLICY:

safe2choose (the Organization or We) is a non-profit entity that provides a digital system with a website and related technologies to connect people everywhere to accurate and tailored information on safe abortion options, so that they can have a safe abortion where, when, and with whom they feel most comfortable (the System). The System collects personally identifiable information (PII) about the people who use it and the Organization’s employees, independent contractors, and people who apply for such positions (Users). This Privacy Policy explains the types of PII collected and Users‘ rights relating to the PII we collect. We own and control many aspects of the System, but to improve efficacy, some aspects are supplied by Third-Party Service Providers.

We created and follow this Privacy Policy to protect Users’ privacy.

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY & SUPPLEMENTAL PRIVACY NOTICES

We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy in the future. We shall not notify users about minimal changes that do not impact their privacy interests – such as providing enhanced privacy protection, correcting misspellings, and/or adding non-material information. For any material change, we will notify Users via email about them. This means that if a User has not provided a valid email address, we cannot notify them about any changes to this Policy. This Privacy Policy may be changed or supplemented by us posting a new version or supplemental privacy notices applicable to a particular interaction with us. These notices may be either embedded in this Policy, posted on the Organization’s website, and/or made available to you separately.

LINKS TO THIRD-PARTY SITES

This Privacy Policy does not apply to any third-party sites that may link to, or be accessible from, the System. We are not responsible for any of the content, features, functionality, or privacy practices of other linked sites or services. The data collection and use practices of any linked third-party site will be governed by that third party’s applicable privacy notice, statement, or policy, and its terms of use. We encourage you to read them.

THE PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION WE COLLECT:

In this Privacy Policy, we collectively refer to all personally identifiable information as “PII.” We collect a broad range of PII from and about Users, and the exact PII collected depends on the User and the situation. Therefore, PII may include any or all of the following:

  • Name.
  • Email address.
  • Phone number.
  • IP address, internet service provider, browser type, and language.
  • Location.
  • Time Zone.
  • Languages used.
  • Age, gender, personal photos, and other personal information Users provide.
  • Information Users provide regarding their health, reproductive/pregnancy issues, reasons for interacting with the System, and their abilities to access and pay for reproductive healthcare services.
  • Employment status and employer information.
  • Testimonials and ratings given to any aspect of the System.

HOW WE COLLECT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION:

We ask for your consent before collecting PII, and by interacting with the System, Users have given their consent to both (1) the terms and conditions outlined in this Privacy Policy and (2) our collection, use, and retention of any information they provide to the Organization and/or any information that the System collects from the technologies they are using to interact with the System.

In other words, anytime a User interacts with the System, it can automatically collect PII from the technology the User is using and will collect any PII that the User provides during any such interaction with the System.

We may use any or all of the following methods to collect Personal Information:

  • Voluntary contributions by the Users;
  • Users’ interactions with any part of the System including but not limited to Third-Party Service Providers; and
  • Discussions/interactions with Users.

We will continue to search for efficient, secure ways to collect PII. And, if we find such ways, we will amend this Privacy Policy to reflect any changes.

WHAT WE DO WITH YOUR PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION:

We use the PII we collect and/or possess in the following ways:

  • To interact with you as a User including but not limited to providing you with relevant, helpful information relating to your reproductive options.
  • Analyze any PII so we can improve the services, products, and value we deliver and/or communicate such improvements and related information to Users and others.
  • Perform administrative functions for the System and/or in the normal course of employment and operations of the Organization.
  • Conduct research for and/or by the Organization.
  • For some eLearning courses we provide in collaboration with other organizations, we provide the other organizations some PII we collect about their members who participate in such eLearning courses.
  • Fundraising efforts, which can include providing summaries of PII to entities that offer or might offer funding to the Organization.
  • Provide PII to law enforcement, other government agencies or authorities, or third parties as required by applicable law, court order, subpoena, or legal process served on the Organization.

We will take reasonable and lawful steps to avoid being forced to disclose your PII by any governmental entity or third-party that seeks access to it. However, there are instances where government entities and/or third-parties have the legal right to compel entities like our Organization to disclose PII; and, in these situations, our Organization will have to comply.

As to PII collected and/or stored by Third-Party Service Providers participating in the System, we do not control their use and/or storage of any such PII.

As explained in the section of this Privacy Policy titled “YOUR RIGHTS TO ACCESS, CORRECT, CONTROL, AND DELETE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION”, you can influence what we do with your PII as defined in that section.

YOUR RIGHTS TO ACCESS, CORRECT, CONTROL AND DELETE YOUR PERSONALLY IDENTIFIABLE INFORMATION:

Users whose PII is within our possession have the following rights –

  • Obtain access to and receive copies of their PII.
  • Receive an explanation of how we obtained and have used their PII.
  • Correct or delete their PII.
  • Change how we use their PII.

To exercise any of these rights, Users must provide us with a valid, verifiable email address and follow the instructions set forth below in the section of this Privacy Policy titled “HOW TO CONTACT US WITH REQUESTS, COMMENTS, AND QUESTIONS”. If a User does not provide us with a valid, verifiable email address, we cannot contact them; and this prevents (1) us from notifying them about changes to this policy and/or issues relating to their PII and (2) us from verifying their identify so that we can allow them to exercise their rights to access, correct, control and delete their PII.

OUR MINOR’S PRIVACY POLICY AND PRACTICES:

We do not knowingly collect information about people under the age of 13. Because interactions with the System do not involve any material and/or information that interests minors or could adversely affect them, we do not independently verify the age of the people using our website and services. This means we might unintentionally and inadvertently collect some PII of a minor who uses the System. To the extent that Users provide the PII about people under the age of 13, the Organization shall treat such PII according to this Privacy Policy. If we knowingly interact with a person under the age of 13, we instruct the person that they need an adult’s consent to interact with the System.

OUR DATA SECURITY AND RETENTION POLICIES AND PRACTICES:

To protect your PII from unauthorized disclosure/use, we take the following precautions:

Education about this Policy: We inform our employees, representatives, and Third-Party Service Providers about the details of this Privacy Policy and the importance of protecting the PII within our and their possession from unauthorized disclosure/use.

Security enhancements: We are in the process of enhancing our efforts to secure your PII. At this time, we have implemented a series of security efforts designed to prevent the unauthorized disclosure and/or use of your PII. After we complete the security enhancement project, we will update this Privacy Policy. Contact us with any questions.

Data retention policy – Our general policy is to delete all PII within 1 year of the date collected. However, due to the complexity of our System, this does not always happen. Additionally, our data retention policy does not apply to PII collected and/or stored by Third-Party Service Providers.

Data encryption policy – We recognize the importance of encrypting the PII that we collect, and we are in the process of modifying our System so that all PII will be encrypted at rest. Currently, however, not all PII is being encrypted at rest. Additionally, our data encryption policy does not apply to PII collected and/or stored by Third-Party Service Providers.

Third-Party Service Providers: As to Third-Party Service Providers, we have not independently assessed whether they have implemented the security precautions they claim to be using. Such an independent assessment is too expensive and time-consuming for an entity like our Organization, and most third-party service providers will not allow these assessments to be done.

OUR “DO NOT TRACK” DISCLOSURE:

We do not track people across third-party websites to provide targeted advertising. Therefore, we do not respond to Do Not Track (DNT) signals.

HOW TO CONTACT US WITH REQUESTS, COMMENTS, AND QUESTIONS:

To contact us with requests, comments, and/or questions, please email us at privacy@safe2choose.org. Before disclosing any PII or making any changes to PII, we will use the email address on file to verify the identity of the person making the request. Your privacy is very important to us.

As stated above, if a User does not provide us a valid, verifiable email address when originally interacting with us and providing us PII, we cannot subsequently verify their identity; and this prevents us from allowing anyone from exercising any rights relating to PII in our possession.

LAST UPDATE:

This Privacy Policy was updated on July, 2024. We will update this Privacy Policy at least once every 12 months.
